Meet AC Board of Directors Pass Resolution
ATLANTIC CITY, NJ (Tuesday, January 31, 2017) Meet AC, which is Atlantic City’s Convention and Visitors Bureau held an emergency board meeting Tuesday, January 31.
A resolution has been voted on and passed by the Meet AC Board of Directors to oppose the bill that has been proposed to increase the hotel bed tax by $2.00 for two years to help pay for public safety in Atlantic City.
Meet AC’s position strongly opposes any Legislation, including the Act, that imposes a surcharge on hotel occupancies in the City of Atlantic City and Meet AC urges the Legislature of the State of New Jersey to vote against the Act should it come before either the Assembly or Senate of the State of New Jersey.
“This action would be damaging to not only the Atlantic City tourism industry, but the meetings and convention industry as well. The Meet AC team has been working hard to place a positive image of Atlantic City, while booking record-breaking business. The proposed bill would put another road block into the process of selling the destination,” said Jeff Albrecht, Meet AC Board Chairman and general manager, Sheraton, Atlantic City.
Last year, Meet AC conducted a study that showed Atlantic City already had some of the country’s highest room taxes. The research found the total taxes in Atlantic City add up to 19 percent on casino rooms and 15 percent on non-casino properties on a room rate of $100. The 19 percent tax share on city casino rooms was higher than hotel rooms in cities such as Philadelphia, Boston and Baltimore, which are Meet AC’s industry competitors’.
The Meet AC Board of Directors meet the second Monday of every month. For more information about Meet AC, please visit: www.meetac.com.
